Streaks Split on Saturday

Galesburg started the morning out with a nice win over Peoria Central. The Streaks jumped to a 20+ lead in the first half, and then coasted to the win. It was a great opportunity for some of our players to play more shifts than usual and to play the entire fourth quarter.

Particularly impressive was Dani Teel. Dani exploded for a career high 15 points on 5-6 field goals and 5-6 from the line. It is great to see a player who plays as hard as Dani have such a good game.

Central is a team which lost to Manual in a close game earlier this year- Manual the same team we lost to. So while Central does not have as strong of a record as usual, it was nice to the Streaks play such a dominate game.

In the night cap, the Streaks lost to Centennial. Centennial is an impressive team. They won the Bloomington Tourney with wins over powerful teams like- U-High, Springfield, and Richwoods. That is impressive. Last year we pulled off the upset over Centennial but they were ready for us this year. Centennial entered the game as the #3 team in 3A in Illinois and looked every part of it.

Centennial has a rare duo in their backcourt- they have two experienced guards who can both play the role of being the point guard or the role of being the shooting guard. Few teams have this luxury- it makes them tough to press needless to say. To compliment them, they have a 6'2" shot blocker inside, and a 5'10" physical, athletic post player. Yes, they have all the right pieces, and on top of it, they are extremely well coached.

The most impressive aspect of the Chargers game was their defense. They played good defense. It prevented us to get any of our classic runs. We had only one run in the game and it was in the second quarter when we scored 8 straight to make the game 23-22. We were unable to get the lead and trailed by six at half-time.

The great thing about the King Tourney is that each weekend is like playing a Sectional Tourney. The competition is so strong- it prepares you for the best competition you would face come tourney time.

The Streaks face their toughest two weeks of the year.
Centennial- state ranked- #3 in 3A
At Quincy
Peoria ND- defeated 4A power Richwoods
U-High- state ranked in 3A
Morton- state ranked in 3A
At Rock Island- state ranked in 4A.

No one will have a tougher two weeks in their season than the Streaks.
