Audree- Dealing with Stay At Home

Audree had a good year for us this past year. She got better and better as the season went on. She finished the season shooting 62.4% from the field, which is the 5th best in GHS history.

Audree has some basketball people in her family. Her grandfather, David was boys basketball coach at GHS and then at Knox College. Her father, Ryan was one of our all-time top practice players. And her mother, Jenny was captain of our 1999 2nd in State team. In her interview, it is nice to see the respect she has for her family.

It is tough for players now. As students, their course would has changed dramatically. With basketball, there are no open gyms and no access to the weight room. There is no scrimmaging, running, sweating, and getting tired. So it is a time where as students and as athletes, players have to have the self-discipline to push themselves and to make themselves better. Audree is someone who we think can have a big year next year, so we are hoping she wears the net out in her driveway!

It is tough times, what has your average day looked like? What kind of things have you done?
My average day has been waking up pretty late in the day and then working on school. After that I will do some try of workout if it’s either running, doing strength workouts, or practicing basketball.

I bet you would never had said it, but what do you miss about school?
I miss socializing at school and going to volleyball or basketball practices/open gyms after.

What are examples of the kinds of things you are being asked to do in your eLearning?
Many of my teachers having a lot of Google Meets calls.

When you were younger, was there a Streaks player you admired?
I have always admired my mom and her teammates when she played for GHS.

As you look back on this past season, what about your individual game do you feel pride in what you were able to do?
I am proud of my field goal percentage.

Any game in particular that stands out for you in this past year?
Probably the games at Mattoon because I think that was the point when I became more confident in my game. Another game is the Burlington game because even though I didn't feel good, I just pushed that aside and played as hard as I could. I will always remember the 2nd time we played UT because the whole 1st half I could not figure out how to guard #15 and just over all played bad, but the 2nd half I stepped up a lot and I over all played pretty good.

As you look back on this past season, what is one thing about your game that you hope to be able to change or improve on? If you can, be specific.
For this next season I really want to work on being more consistent and always doing good in every game. I also want to be consistent in my rebounds and always have at least 8. I want to have more points per game, and be able to make 15ft shots.

When people watch you play, what do you hope they would say about you?
I hope they say that I am a good player and always work hard.

During the stay at home, can you describe your best basketball workout?
Whenever I have a rebounder, it always helps during my workout. I usually start by shooting close to the basket and then working my way out. I will shoot around 20 free throws at a time and then do something in between like post moves, ball handling, or shooting.

Your grandpa was a basketball coach. How has he helped you become the player you are now?
My grandpa has always had great advice for me and I probably have more respect for what he has to say about my game then what other people have to say. I appreciate how he has always supported me a lot.

Your mom played for Galesburg. How has her having played in the same program helped you?
I have always wanted to be like my mom when she was a player. I’ve always heard about how feisty she was and how she was always the toughest player on the court. Although I’m not the best at it, she taught me from a young age to always box out. Her team had amazing chemistry and I hope that our team can have something like that. My mom has taught me to never give up and try my best no matter the circumstances. I hope that I can be as good of a player as her.

If you could get one person to come to your house and shoot basketball with you- who would you pick to shoot with? Why?
My mom or dad even though they are already at my house. My mom has always been straight up with me if I’m ever doing anything wrong or not good enough. My dad is usually complimenting me and telling me to keep going.

If you could say anything about basketball to your teammates, what you like to tell them?
I would tell my teammates that I know that we all want to be great next year, but we have to work on it in order for it to happen. We have to go hard at everything and we can’t give up. I think we all have a good relationship with each other, and we need to keep that going on the court.

How can you and your teammates be better leaders?
I think that everyone needs to support each other so that we can all help each other be the best we can.

What do you hope to be able to do after high school? In terms of both basketball and what you study?
I have no clue what I want to do with my career (even though I should probably figure that out soon). If basketball works out for college, then I would gladly play.

Last question- if you could pick three people (living or dead) to come to supper, who would you choose? Why?
Kobe Bryant - it has always inspired me how he didn’t let anyone tell him that he wasn’t good and he is just a legend.   Sabrina Ionescu - I look up to her and how great of a player she is and her energy on the court.   Helen Peck(my Great Nanny) - I admire how she has the biggest heart and is such a hard worker. She doesn’t ever let anyone tell her no, and she is always the best at anything she tries.
