Tanner Carlson & Knox

This fall I had Tanner Carlson from Knox College as my student teacher. He was outstanding. Tanner and present Knox football coach Cory Bonstead are the easily the two best student teachers I have had the opporutnity to work with.

It seems like it is going to be a good gig having a student teacher. The reality is that 80% of the time having a student teacher is really a pain. As the supervisor you feel you are putting out fire constantly.

With Tanner, that was certainly not the case. As Dr. Chiles (GHS principal) said,"I think our test scores are going to go up having Tanner work with the kids instead of you." Yes, he is probably right.

It was a great experience for me and it was a great experience for the students. I have had many positive experiences and relationships in 30+ years teaching/coaching- working with Tanner would definitely make my top ten!

Friday was Tanner's last day. Normally on Friday I get our advocacy donuts. Several weeks ago they informed me that on Mr.Carlson's last day they needed pizza. Since I like to eat, I thought that was a good idea. So Friday we had pizza and cake.

The advocacy students were told the one condition was that they take a Knox basketball schedule and agree to go to at least one of Tanner's games this winer. Go Prairie Fire! We will miss you, Tanner.

He was a GREAT student teacher.

Tanner's cake before we dug in.
