Early Look- HS Girls Basketball

Sadly many local newspapers don’t cover local sports the way they used to. To fill the void for myself (and maybe you), I have decided to put together a look at girls basketball in western Illinois thru the first three weeks. Please realize, that if I missing some teams and games it is simply due to my inexperience and lack of professionalism. So this where girls basketball thru Monday, December 9.

For The Record

The Undefeated’s-
Washington at 8-0 and Dixon at 9-0. Washington has notable wins over Peoria ND and Galesburg. Washington has a tough schedule ahead with away games at Pekin, A-Town, Normal Comm, and Limestone before Christmas. Dixon has notable wins over Kaneland and Ottawa, and before Christmas will play Sycamore.

One Loss Teams-
Morton 5-1 (Pleasant Plaines), Limestone 4-1 (Peoria ND), Sterling 7-1 (Galesburg), Galesburg 8-1 (Washington). Morton has had large wins over both Rock Island and LImestone. Limestone has a good win over Mahomet-Seymour. Sterling had a large win over Alleman at home, and then pulled off the upset at Quincy. Galesburg has wins over Dunlap, Springfield, and Moline.

Two Loss Teams-
Pekin 2-2 (Springfield, Dunlap), Quincy 4-2 (Edwardsville, Sterling), Alleman 6-2 (Havana, Sterling), Rock Island 6-2 (Morton, Quincy). Of this group, Alleman has a large win over Moline, and Quincy has a large win over Rock Island.

Don’t Be Surprised
Three teams standout as having taken a jump this year- Pekin, LImestone, and Manual. Pekin has a win over Springfield and a one point loss to Dunlap. Limestone has only lost once- to Peoria ND. And Peoria Manual is 3-3. Included in Manual’s season is a 51-47 loss to Morton.

Youth Movement
Three teams are competing right now, despite playing very young lineups- Dunlap, Quincy, and Galesburg. Quincy’s leading scorers are a freshman and two sophomores. Galesburg is starting four sophomores, and one of the first off the bench is a freshman.
