Another National Record for Streaks?

Last year the Streaks set a national record by hitting 397 threes during the season. As impressive as that was, this year's version of the Streaks is much more of a defensive oriented team. As we hit the 1/3 mark of the season, it appears the Streaks are headed for setting another national record- on the defense side this year.

Defense is something that requires lots of hard work and repetition. And to be successful on defense, you have to study game tape over and over. All of this hard work is really paying off.

The Streaks are headed for a national record for FT Defense. Presently we are holding our opponents to 51% from the line on 100 for 197 attempts. When asked about this, Coach Massey replied,"FT defense is probably one of the most under taught and under appreciated basketball fundamentals."

This year's version of the Streaks have spent countless hours studying some of the great FT defensive teams. In particular, they studied old tapes to watch Bill Russell and the Celtics defending Wilt Chamberlain at the line, and then the more recent Bulls team and the techniques they used vs. Shaq.

Massey says, "Casey Williams, Paige Klinck, and Rainee Sibley are probably our best FT defenders. All of them have brothers who they have played pick up games with. I am sure they have had to try to find any advantage they can to compete- as a result on tape it is clear they have mastered basic FT defense fundamental skills."
