Streaks Basketball Alum: Angie Galyean Klapp- 1997

What were some of your favorite classes/teachers at GHS?

Advanced Chemistry - Mr Spencer. I love math and enjoyed all my math classes.

What are some of your favorite memories of your years at GHS?

I can honestly say my best memories.. sooooo many good memories..all involve playing basketball! I can say I loved everything about it. I loved summer league, summer camps. I loved the closeness our our team, the friendships we built, the team dinners.

Every sweet 16, regional, sectional win - including those in which Allen Massey was born!!!! And of course - every single moment and experience at the state tournaments and the hardware we won.

Being a part of Streaks Girls Basketball history with in my opinion some of the best players the school has ever had, while being coached by Coach Massey one of the best coaches GHS will ever have had!!!!!

What did you do after graduating?

After high school I went to Carl Sandburg College for 2 years and earned an associates in science. I played basketball both years. After I graduated from CSC I continued playing at University of Illinois Springfield and earned a bachelor's degree in Biology.

After I graduated I moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a few years before moving back home. I decided to go back to school after moving back home to Illinois. I earned my RN degree from CSC. I worked as an ICCU nurse at OSF St. Mary's for several years. I then worked as a recovery room nurse for several years before deciding to go back to school for my master's degree.

I earned my master's degree in nursing becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner. Overall, I worked as an RN for 11 years in the hospital which I LOVED. I then transitioned to an office world working as a Family Nurse Practitioner with OSF here in Galesburg where I have been practicing for the last 6 years.

What are you up to now?

I still live here in Galesburg with my family. I have been married for 10 years (together 15). I have 4 amazing children (3 stepchildren) - 2 girls, 2 boys. I am a proud grandma of 2 beautiful granddaughters. I love to spend time with my family and travel.

What advice do you have for the present Streaks athletes?

I don't know the current girls basketball coach personally but am aware she was brought up under teaching/coaching by coach Massey - so I have no doubt she must run an amazing program based on integrity, respect, responsibility, commitment, teamwork, and excellence. With that being said my advice is always give it your best, work hard, and never quit. Create memories and take it all in because playing as a Streaks Girls Basketball player in this kind of program should be some of the best!!!
