Friday Fotos- Girls State 1998- Kent Kriegshauser

One of the greatest compliments we can give to someone is to say they have gone above and beyond what we expected.

The Streaks girls basketball team had gone to State in 1996, 1997, and again in 1998. Kent Kriegshauser was one of those photographers that was always looking to do something new, and to capture the action in a new way.

When he explained to me what he had done, all i could say was,”What!?!?”

There was catwalk high about the Redbird Arena. I don’t like heights, he scared me just to look up there.

Kent had asked permission to place a camera on the catwalk. It was right above one of the baskets and pointed down. He had a remote control device to snap the pictures while sitting on the baseline.

Our opponent, Loyola, had a frontline of two All-State players who were 6’3” and 6’2”. With one picture Kent was able to capture the struggle inside for the Streaks. He snapped the picture as 5’9” Megan Pacheco was battling for a rebound.

I have labeled this- “Going Above and Beyond.” The picture is from the Steaks loss to Loyola in the Elite 8 in 1998. “Going Above and Beyond” would accurately describe not only Kent’s work but it would also certainly describe Megan Pacheco’s approach to basketball.

  1. Coach! You're very kind. Thank you. I can tell you this. The only other time I'd mounted a remote in a catwalk, to this point, was in old Boston Garden for a Celtics Vs. Bulls game. The Streaks were in good company!
