Coaches’ Corner- Tennessee Lob Play

Tennessee runs a good lob play out of a horns set. The point guard sets a rub screen for a post up, and then sets a back screen on the other post.

Diagram #1- #1 is going to enter the ball to #2. #1 wants to get over toward the wing so they have a good angle for their cut. #1 is going to cut to “get in the way” of #4’s defender. #4 must cut right off #1’s hips. This action sets up a good post up opportunity.

Diagram #2- #1 continues their cut toward the basket. #1 then turns and cuts hard back up the lane. #1’s cut should sell they are going up to cut off #5, instead sets a back screen for #5. The ball can be thrown to #5 either from #2 or #4.
