Streaks Alumni Profile: Mickey Rodriguez 2011

Today’s “Streaks Alumni Profile” features Mickey Rodriguez from the Galesburg High School’s Class of 2011.

Mickey played for the Streaks when we were running the “System.” Mickey was an outstanding three point shooter, and was a perfect fit for playing in the System.

Mickey was an outstanding teammate, always putting  the team first. She left a positive impact on Silver Streaks basketball!!

What were some of your favorite teachers/classes at GHS?

My favorite class was accounting with Mrs. Achelpohl. It really inspired me to pursue a career in accounting. Mrs. A was so kind and a great teacher.

What are some of your best memories from GHS?

Some of best memories from GHS years. Some of my best memories are playing summer basketball. Getting the opportunity to play at camps like UNC, Tennessee,  Wisconsin, and bonding with teammates was an amazing experience. Another core memory is our team advancing to the Elite 8 and the community support. Home and even away games you felt the passion and loyalty of our fans all season.

Did you continue education/sports after GHS?

I attended Knox College and majored in Economics. I then went on to Northern Illinois University and obtained a Masters in Accounting. I played basketball my sophomore year at Knox but unfortunately tore my ACL during a game, marking the end of my short-lived college basketball career.

What have you done for your career?

I am currently an accountant at Caterpillar. I work in the Aftermarket Parts Distribution business unit. I previously worked in Mining Technology. My job is interesting and I learn something new everyday. My goal is to continue to grow my career within Caterpillar.

What are you up to these days?

I’ve been focusing on my career and personal life. I am close to my immediate family and visit them often in Galesburg.

What advice to present Streak athletes?

Enjoy the moment and all the memories you are creating. Also, work hard on and off the court/field. It will not only take you far in sports but in life as well
