Streaks Basketball Alums: Isaiah Peachey 2008

What was your favorite class (classes), favorite teacher (teachers)?

I have 3 classes that stand out in my memory. American Studies where I enjoyed the content and the community that was built in that class.

I enjoyed the class I took with you, Coach Massey, where I got the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant with a group of special education students in a PE class. I loved connecting with the students and being a bridge and involving them in all of the activities.

I’m also going to protect my 2025 Thanksgiving plate and say my dad, Steve Peachey’s Anatomy and Physiology class. It was a fun class full of athletes and/or future medical professionals. A big downside of that class was I was never able to say, “I don’t have any homework.”

What are a few of your favorite memories from GHS?

A couple of my favorite memories from GHS:

** Going to the Limestone soccer tournament senior year

** Friday night boys basketball games with the band upstairs

** Conversations with Pete Thiery and Pick next to their seats during girls varsity basketball games or sophomore boys games

** Being a part of the Project Graduation

** Having the same locker neighbor from 6th grade at Churchill to senior year. Shout out to Lauren Pearson!

What did you do right after high school?

After high school, I attended Olivet Nazarene University. I originally started as a Sports Management major but that didn’t stick. After a detour to Kenya, Africa sophomore year, I switched to Social Science Education and graduated in 2013.

What did you do for a career?

Since graduating in 2013, my goal was to teach and coach within the Chicago Public School system. After a year of serving several different roles between several schools, I landed my first full time teaching position on Chicago’s south side. The school has since been closed/consolidated but at the time it was called TEAM Englewood and as some may know, TEAM participated in a Galesburg Thanksgiving tournament one year. One of my former students from another school is currently a sophomore defensive back for Knox College. Shoutout Jalen Brown!

To date, I’ve worked at 4 high schools in my 12 years in CPS and I am currently serving as an Instructional Coach at Gage Park High School. Most of my daily schedule involves meeting with teacher teams or individually to work on their established goals for growth. I’m glad that I still get to interact with students but I really enjoy getting into the weeds about teaching and child development.

What are you up to these days?

My wife, Abby, and I met at Olivet and have a 2 year old daughter, Brooklyn. We live in Chicago, about 10 minutes north of Wrigley Field. Go Cubs Go! As I previously mentioned, I work on the south side of the city and while it isn’t “fun” to have a 12 mile commute take over an hour after school, I still get to drive on Lake Shore Drive and see the skyline every day. Driving home from school on a 60 degree spring day might be a top 5 activity for me. The Peachey clan is still pretty strong in Galesburg so we still visit several times a year and I’ve enjoyed driving around the school and fields to see the new developments.

What advice would you have for today’s Silver Streak athletes?

My advice to today’s Silver Streak athletes would be to soak up as much of the culture and history as you can while you are in it. Every game or team has some legacy that has been built by others. A fun aspect of Galesburg athletics is that there is a good chance that someone in the stands, watching a competition or a practice, has a list of memories about competing in that same way. My advice is to be aware of that and listening to their stories will help contextualize that being a Silver Streak is something to be proud of.

Here is a post from 2017 about Isaiah teaching in Chicago.
