Today’s “Streaks Alumni Profile features Kevin Stone from the GHS class of 1984.
Kevin is one of the most inspiring people that I know, both as a student and now as an adult. I am so glad that he was willing to share some of his memories from GHS and what he is up to today.
Sports / Activities at GHS
I participated in track for 2 years and wrestling for 2 years. I also managed football all 3 years.
Favorite Teachers / Classes
I had a lot of great teachers while I was at GHS. The two that really stand out for me were Mr. Hood and Mr. Devore. I hope I spelled that right. Probably my favorite class was American studies.
Best Memories Growing Up in Galesburg and Going to GHS
Some of my greatest memories of growing up in Galesburg were going to the activities that my brothers and sisters were in while I was growing up. There are so many memories from my time at GHS. I got to be around so many students and staff that made the 3 years I was there very special for me. Some of the things that stand out were going to the basketball games on Friday and Saturday night. Being on the sidelines during the football games. Also, the times I had with my friends.
Education After GHS
After graduating from GHS, I attended Illinois State University. I graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and I also majored in political science as well.
Career
I have had a variety of inside sales and customer service positions. Probably the most rewarding jobs was at Naeir. I spent 18 years there.
Today
I currently live in Galesburg. I started a customer service position with Dick Blick in March 2026. I just celebrated my 11th wedding anniversary with my wife, Julie. All of our kids are grown now and have children of their own which makes me a Very Proud Grandpa to many! Unfortunately, none of them live in Galesburg so we have many fun places to go visit.
Advice to Today’s Students / Athletes
What I would tell todays students and athletes at GHS: would be to work as hard as you can at what you do but also have fun. It is over before you know it.
