The Old Galesburg HS- An Aerial View

Old GHS in Broad St & Tompkins St.

I am sharing an aerial view of the block of old Galesburg HS, Churchill JH, and Steele Gym. 

Galesburg HS is in the lower right corner, what would be the NW corner of Broad St and Tompkins St. Today that is the general area of the Galesburg City Hall. 

Just North of GHS was a grade school. If anyone knows the name, share in the comments. 

Churchill JH is in the upper right corner of the block, what would be the SW corner of Broad St. and Simmons St. Today that is the general area just East of the Fire Station on Simmons St.

Steele Gym is in the upper left corner of the block, what would be the SE corner of Cedar St. and Simmons St. Today it is just West of the Fire Station on Simmons St.

In this pictures, in the upper right you can see part of the Central Congregational Church. Just North of Steele Gym, you can see the roof of the Harrington Home. In the far upper left of the picture, you can see the edge of Mary Allen West School. 

In the school block, just West of GHS and South of Steele there is a building just off the corner of Cedar St and Tompkins St. I am told it was called the “Sewing Center” and some GHS students took classes there. If you know more info about it, please put in the comments. 

Across Tompkins St, just West of Steele Gym, I am told that students could stop at a house that served food for lunch or after school. If you have information about that, please share it in the comments.
