Coaches’ Corner- Bad Screen, Good Screen for Three

Coaches’ Corner- This is a nice counter to a fade action to set up a good shooter or a point guard.
Note- The players at the top should be #2 not #1. You can set up whoever you want to get a shot.

Figure 1- Out of a horns set, put your best shooter or your point guard at the top. Pass to #4 then cut off a fade screen from #5. This can be a bad screen because you want #2’s defender to get thru.

Figure 2- #2 MUST take two steps past #5’s screen then plant and reverse direction. Now we want a good screen by #5 and #2 will cut into a dribble handoff action off #4. This is very tough to defender. If it is a shooter, you are looking for the shot, or they can go hard off it to drive and have #4 roll to the basket.

Note- Instead of a dribble handoff action, #4 can go out and catch it a little wider so the play finishes with #2 catching a pass coming off #5’s screen.

Key to Success- #2 must really go hard off the fade cut and pull the defender wide.
