Friday Fotos- Bumpy’s Last Game

Bumpy Nixon-
Bumpy transferred to Galesburg HS from Quincy in the summer of 1958. He was leading scorer for the Streaks in both 1958-9 and 1959-60 season.

Galesburg Regional-
Galesburg hosted the Regional in 1960. Bumpy was turning 19 the day after the Regional Championship and was to be ineligible for the Sectional. To help prepare for games without Bumpy, Coach Thiel dressed Bumpy but held him out of the games in the Regional. The only game he played in the Regional was the championship game vs. Corpus Christi. In 80 second of play, Bumpy had 5 points and 2 rebounds.

Fans’ Appreciation-
Galesburg fans recognized how great Bumpy had been and how unfair the rule change was that made Bumpy ineligible. They expressed their appreciation to Bumpy.
