This is a great action that provides an elevator screen for a three, or then a backdoor action.
Setting It Up- #1 wants to get the ball back high enough that they are not going east-west but are going a little down hill to get their defender to have to back down some.
#5 is going to go to the elbow. They do not want to be “dancing around,” get the the elbow as a landmark.
Elevator Action- #1 wants to go down hill enough to make the defense back off. #3 is either going thru an elevator or make it a double screen.
#3 wants to be one of your shooting threats.
Pivot and Backdoor- When the guard pivots, the post moves from the elbow to just above the top of key, plants and goes backdoor.
Pivot and Backdoor- When the guard pivots, the post moves from the elbow to just above the top of key, plants and goes backdoor.
When the player steps up to the three point arc to set up the backdoor if the defender just sits back- the player should just stay. Get them the ball to go one on one.
You can make a play call to designate who is going to be the player to go backdoor. In other words, change up who goes to the elbow with a specific call.
Pass Down to Shooter- If guard passes down the to shooter coming thru the elevator, the two screeners go screen for the post.
Pass Down to Shooter- If guard passes down the to shooter coming thru the elevator, the two screeners go screen for the post.
This can be a reaction or it can be a set play that is called. This may work if you use it just once or twice because the double screen creates confusion of the defense as to how to switch or help.
