Streaks Scrapbook- The Entire Collection

I appreciate the interest people have shown in my "Streaks Scrapbook" posts. My first quest is to do a "scrapbook" post on each of the boys and girls State Teams since 1950. Traditionally a State appearance has been defined as a Sweet Sixteen appearance. This dates back to the 1930's thru 1955 when all Sectional winners played in the State Finals at Huff Gym at the University of Illinois.

Since boys basketball started in 1904, the Streaks boys basketball teams have advanced to State 24 times. Before 1930, Galesburg qualified for State 5 times. During this era, it would appear sometimes it was perhaps an "invitational" tourney as GHS did not have to win an earlier tourney. During the Gerald Phillips era (1930-1950) Galesburg qualified for state 7 times, but it was not quite like today. In the early '30's, everyone played in a District, not a Regional. And the runner-up in the District advanced. Perhaps at some point, I will try to go back and look at some of those teams.

I chose to look at teams after 1950. Since 1950, Galesburg has had 23 total teams qualify for "State." 12 boys teams and 11 girls teams have advanced to State. My method was to start with oldest of these teams- boys 1955 and girls 1995. I have alternated with a boys and then a girls team.

At present, I have done posts on the following boys teams: 1955, 1956, 1957, 1959, and 1960. And I have a post on the following girls teams: 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999. The next boys team will be 1963, and the next girls team 2000.

Right now, I am taking a little break but will get back going soon. I have really enjoyed going back thru old newspapers, and I really appreciate the number of people who have read the posts. I would really appreciate if you would take the time to add comments at the end of articles AND type your name in the comments. Google blogs don't work like Facebook, if you don't post your name, it becomes anonymous.

Here is a look at everything in the Streaks Scrapbook, plus some older posts that also look back.
