Streaks Basketball Alums: Ted Trueblood 1994

Ted Trueblood- GHS Class of 1994

What are some of your favorite memories from GHS?

Playing for the Silver Streaks was something that has become more special with age.  Playing in front of several thousand fans on Friday night against some of the powerhouse programs in the state at the time was an incredible experience, and it is something that I think about often when I watch my girls still playing basketball in the Western Big 6, especially when they’ve played at Galesburg.

What did you do after graduating from GHS?

After graduation, I graduated from both Carl Sandburg College and Knox College.  I earned a degree in History and Elementary Education, and was able to play basketball and baseball at both places, before starting my career in education.

What have you done for your career?

I started out teaching and coaching in Galesburg, teaching elementary school and coaching at Lombard and then as an assistant at GHS, and from there moved to Carterville in southern Illinois where I earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.  I got my first principal job in Payson, right outside of Quincy, before moving to the Quad Cities to be the principal at Eagle Ridge School in Carbon Cliff, one of the schools partnered with United Township.  I am starting year 27 in education.

What are you up to these days?

Staying busy with the principal duties and enjoying time with my wife Megan, our kids, and now a grandchild, and enjoying watching my two youngest girls play basketball as a senior and a sophomore at United Township.

What advice do you have for present-day Silver Streaks?

To enjoy the time you have playing the game as a Silver Streak, and to make the most of it by trying to get better every day–it will be over before you know it!
