Lexie Hull Where Have You Been
Going into the All-Star game Lexie Hull led the WNBA in 3 % and then has gone thru a huge slump. Saturday night she went 4-6 from threes. With McDonald and Colson out, she started and played 32 minutes. She appeared to play with the same confidence and energy that she did early in the year after coming off the Unrivaled season. One can only hope that all of the injuries eventually allow players like Hull to get minutes and confidence.
Cunningham's Talent Sometimes Lost in Her Off-Court Antics
Sophie Cunningham can play. She is tough, runs the floor, can shoot the three, works on defense, and for now handles some point guard. Her early ankle injury caused a slow start, and then her off-court marketing stuff makes her seem unserious. The irony is that on the court she is really a blue collar, not a glamour player. Saturday she finished with 16 points and handled the point guard well.
Boston Going to Be Jokic?
I listened to the podcast of Parker and Boston (Post Moves), and Boston talked about how Coach White helped her in the off-season. One of the things that they had Boston do was to watch breakdown tape of Nikola Jokic. I am not saying Boston has become Jokic but I do think it is obvious that Boston has elevated her game each year. At the beginning of last year she could not do much out of the short roll, now she is the best in the WNBA in the short roll. This year she has become a point-post with her passing. I look for her to keep working on her three point shot. Saturday night they were able to limit her to 24 minutes which is good going forward.
Howard Is a Ball Magnet
Howard seems to always find the ball. And I am not sure there any better finishers in the WNBA.
Mitchell Is Pippen, She Just Needs Jordan Back
Mitchell had 26 points and 8 assists. She is having to carry a huge load with Clark out but is showing how good she is. The tough part is for to have these games back to back. Tonight’s game marked the trend of up and down games.

Seeking To Get in Top Four
The best case scenario for the Fever would be to get up to #3 in the league. That would give them first round home court, and then mean playing New York instead of Minnesota in round #2. But it may turn out that Minnesota would be better second round match up if NY gets Steward healthy. So getting to #3 or #4 are the goals for the end of the season.
Sitting at #5 Right Now
The league standings as for Sunday morning are: #1- Minnesota 26-5, #2- New York 20-10, #3- Atlanta 19-11, #4- Phoenix 19-11, #5- Indiana 18-14, #6- Las Vegas 17-14, #7- Seattle 16-15, #8- Golden State 15-15, #9- Los Angeles 14-16.
So if league ended now, the first round matchups would be: Minnesota vs Golden State, New York vs Seattle, Atlanta vs Las Vegas, Phoenix vs Indiana.
Phoenix vs Indiana would produce a heated matchup based on the last game. I just know that if I have to listen to the Phoenix announcers again, I think I will drive to Phoenix to watch the game rather than listen to them again.
The Schedule Next Week
Minnesota- New York, New York
New York- Minnesota, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Minnesota
Atlanta- Phoenix, Seattle, Seattle, Golden State
Phoenix- Atlanta, Las Vegas, Seattle
Indiana- Dallas, Washington, Connecticut
Las Vegas- Connecticut, New York, Phoenix, Dallas
Seattle- Los Angeles, Atlanta, Atlanta, Phoenix
Los Angeles- Seattle, New York, Dallas, Washington
Golden State- Connecticut, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta
Red Teams= Winning Record, Black Teams= Losing Record
The Fever are 3 games behind Atlanta and Phoenix, so it is not likely in one week that they can catch either team. Based on schedule, it would be hoped that the Fever can gain some ground. Perhaps after this coming week, the Fever can get close to either Phoenix or Atlanta.
Clark Back on Aug. 22 vs. Lynx??
Speculation would be that Clark will miss all the games this coming week. After their game next Sunday with Connecticut, the Fever do not play again until the next Friday vs. Minnesota. Most people think Clark will be back for the Friday game vs. Minnesota.
Need Clark Fix?
It has been tough waiting for Clark to come back. I would suggest you go to Sue Bird’s podcast- “Birds Eye View.” Bird has a 90 minute interview with Caitlin Clark.
Iowa Hawkeyes Need a Point Guard?
In the Bird’s Eye View podcast, Caitlin Clark in a light hearted moment mentioned that she still has one year of college eligibility left and could go back to Iowa.
