Some of you who are older may remember when Galesburg has a local newspaper. The staff covering sports was fabulous. Their stories and their pictures were better than any local paper in Illinois or America in my humble opinion.
One of the greats on the staff was photographer, Kent Kriegshauser. Kent was not one of those photographers who viewed his job as getting 20 pictures and moving on. He truly wanted his pictures to show the story of the sporting contest.
Before games, he would often ask me as the coach 3-4 questions. At first I thought it was just him “making conversation,” but gradually I can to realize he wanted to anticipate what the story of each game was going to be.
Here are some of my favorites from 2000 season. The titles are mine.
“It Takes A Family”

2000- Megan Pacheco vs RI in Sectional
“Celebrate”
2000- The team celebrating on OT win vs Moline in Sectional Championship.
“It Takes A Village”
2000- Jaque Howard, Whitney Snyder, Sarah Pacheco- Guarding Harlem’s All-American, Aminata Yanni.
“It Takes A Big Heart”
2000- In the Elite 8, Megan Pacheco (5’9”) guarding West Aurora’s Jackie Shook (6’5”).
“We Got This”
2000- Sarah and Megan Pacheco are ready to sub during a regular season game.
“Never Give Up”
2000- Trailing in the State Semi-Finals to Chicago Washington, Michelle Flaar battles for the ball on the floor.
“Agony of Defeat”
2000- Senior, Megan Pacheco sits alone at the end of the bench with an injury in the closing minutes of the Third Place game.
“Welcome Home”
2000- The players wait to be introduced at the welcome home. The seniors are carrying each of the State Trophies they won.
