Congratulations to Coach Lexi Demott on her selection as District #16 Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coach’s Association.
The 2024-5 Silver Streaks under Coach Demott had a great season. Galesburg finished second in the WB6, and second in Cole County Christmas Tourney.
Galesburg was ranked by the AP as high as #2 in 3A, and finished the season ranked in the top 10.
The Streaks defeated Richwoods and Dunlap to win the Richwoods Regional championship.
Coach Demott did a great job in her first year, along with her tremendous coaching staff. She was assisted by Jim Noonan, Kelsi Legge, BJ Dieterich, Mark Harden Jr, and Abby Lingafelter.
The Silver Streaks under Coach Demott played an exciting style with an intense full court pressing defense that led to numerous turnovers and countless fast break opportunities.
To execute this uptempo defense and offense, the Streaks players bought into a subbing system that constantly rotated 8-9 players into the game. With a fresh wave of players coming into press, the Streaks defense was relentless.
To accomplish this style successfully, the players bought into a team first approach where the emphasis was on the team and not concerned with individual stats. Not only did the players commitment to this aggressive style result in wins, the player’s unselfishness and hustle was appreciated by the Streaks fans.
Galesburg finished the season with an impressive 24-8 season, while starting 4 sophomores and 1 senior. The first players off the bench included a freshman and two juniors. So the Streaks will return 7 of their 8 players. It will be exciting to see how much the players work and improve during the off-season.
Congratulations to Coach Demott on the much deserved IBCA Coach of the Year Award. 2025 was a great year, and we are looking forward to watching the 2026 version of the Silver Streaks.
Congratulations to you and also your team !!
