We’d Love to See Scores with Our Morning Coffee

High school sports fans are frustrated. We can remember the days when we could pick a morning newspaper on, and see the scores of all the teams- cross country, tennis, golf, soccer, football, volleyball, swimming. And the scores of all the area teams- Galesburg, A-Town, Knoxville, United, ROWVA, Monmouth, and many more. 

Coaches are frustrated.  News outlets with their stories and scores used to help promote interest in the local teams. It helped build up attendance. It helped get younger players excited. News outlets just don’t have the staffs anymore to go out and cover games.  

I want to sit down with my morning coffee and find high school sports scores in one spot. 

Here is the simple plan to get back to where each morning we can check out our local high school sports scores- in every sport and every team in our area. 

Create an X Account for Your Team- Newspapers are not staffed to do what they used to do. Coaches need to develop social media accounts. The most used social media in the sports world is X. 

Use X Account to Cover Your Team

After every contest, coaches should share scores and their record to their X  account

After every contest, coaches should share significant individual performances to their X account. 

Before games, coaches should share time and place of next game. 

Attach @WGILSports- In the old days, coaches had to call in their scores. Today you in effect “call in your scores” by attaching @WGILSports to each of your team’s stories. Fans, coaches, parents, and players can just go to WGILSports and see all the scores for the area in one spot. 

WGILSports can become the one stop site for all local sports scores.

Coaches Watch Your Followers Increase- If coaches put both @WGILSports their scores, it will not only allow their team’s scores to get out there, it will serve to increase the number of views and the popularity of their own team accounts.

Fans Can Post Scores- Fans can also post in-game up-dates or scores with @WGILSports. This will allow results to be seen sometimes in realtime. 

Hit Like, Hit Share- If fans should either like or share when coaches put @WGILSports. When you share and like those posts, it will make sure more people see those posts and future posts. More people will become aware of the team.
