I wasn’t the only one that was anxious to have Caitlin Clark back. The game set a record for most watched WNBA game.
Caitlin certainly did not disappoint. As she led the Fever to an impressive win over the Liberty. The distance of her threes was incredible.
There are many good guards in the WNBA, but it would be tough to not consider Ionescu and Clark as the top two.
Last year, the common complaint was that the Fever need better perimeter shooting. Mitchell, Clark, and Hull have answered that problem pretty well.
Lexie Hull is probably the most impressive with her season after season improvement from three.
Hull shot 18% her first year, then 21%, then 47%, and now she leaders the WNBA at 55.6%.
Probably one of the best moments was with Clark’s taunt of Stewart after Caitlin dropped a three over Stewart.
LeBron even weighed in on missing Clark.
The round-robin of the Commissioners Cup wraps up on Tuesday. It is a big night for the Fever.
The Cup standings in the West make it likely that Minnesota will advance to the finals.
The Cup standings in the East will be determined on Tuesday. If the Fever win and the Liberty win, the Fever will go to the Finals. If the Fever win and the Dream win, the Dream will advance.
The championship of the Cup will be on Tuesday, July 1. The winning team’s earnings will be $500k to be split.
The leaders in the WNBA- show Napheesa Collier leading in scoring and Angel Reese in rebounding. Clark is not considered for the lead in scoring and assists yet because of missed games.
It is really, really early but right now if the play-offs started, the first round matchups would be:
#1 Minnesota vs #8 Las Vegas, #2 New York vs #7 Indiana, #3 Atlanta vs #6 Golden State, #4 Phoenix vs #5 Seattle.
If you are wondering when New York and Minnesota will square off. Their first meeting will not be until July 30. They will then play Aug. 10, 16, and 19. So they will first play about 3 months into the season, then play 4 times in 21 days.
Am I the only one who finds ESPN/ABC’s coverage of the NBA so much worse than TNT’s. I wonder if this picture explains some of the problem.
Union High School (my adopted team) in suburban Tulsa, Oklahoma does their athletic awards in the form of an Oscars-like evening- pretty impressive.
If you have not listened to Sue Bird’s “Birds Eye View”, you are missing some great stuff. Her interview with Kate Martin was great.
Speaking of podcasts, Washington Coach Kim Barth is on Mental Mettle Podcast.
Congrats and good luck to Madison Austin, who has started her workouts at ISU with her college team.
If you have not looked at my Father’s Day post, my vote for 2nd best picture is Coach Reynolds and Sean celebrating on the sideline.
My favorite is Allen and I with Bo Ryan at the UW Father-Son Camp. It should be noted that we won the Camp FT Championship for the entire camp!
