This is a look back at the history of Galesburg (and the world). What was going on 100 years ago, 75 years ago, 50 years ago, 30 years ago, 20 years ago, and 10 years ago this week?

100 Years Ago- 1926
The St. Louis Cardinals won the ‘26 World Series with a young team. the players averaged 27 years old. As a result, the total salaries for the Cardinal team was only $39,000. In the meantime, the Yankees were paying Babe Ruth $52,000.
75 Years Ago- 1951
Park Drive Dairy on corner of Losey and Whitesboro has lots of ice cream options. A gallon of ice cream was $1.75.
50 Years Ago- 1976
Dancing and entertainment was available at the Huddle Lounge with Tom Phillips, and the Show Palace Disco had the latest disco music. The Show Palace had a kissing booth, 25 cent beers, egg eating contests, and featured “Disco Dan.” Coming up later in the month was a wet t-shirt contest.
30 Years Ago- 1996
Hawthorne Centre had only a few parcels of land still available. Watson Funeral Home and RFMS were bidding on available land.
20 Years Ago- 2006
Knox College again received high reviews from two publications. Treasure Schools: College Gems ranked Knox as one of 100 “coolest schools” in America. Knox received this ranking for things like their First-Year Preceptorials, broad curriculum, and 3x3x3 course schedule. And “The Insiders Guide to Colleges” ranked President Taylor as one of the 10 hottest college Presidents in America.
10 Years Ago- 2016
GHS alum, Kelly Ricketts came back as the coach of the Quincy volleyball team and led the Blue Devils to a 2-1 win over the Silver Streaks.
