Aliyah Boston’s Lesson for Young Players

Aliyah Boston was not a good college player at South Carolina, she was a GREAT college player. She was a 4 x starter, 4 x All-SEC First Team, 3 x All-American. In 2022 when SC won the NCAA Title, Aliyah was voted the Tourney Most Outstanding Player.

As a pro, Boston was the #1 draft pick in 2023 by Indiana. She was voted Rookie of the Year. She is a 3 x All-Star, and 2nd team All-WNBA in 2025.

You get my point, Boston has been one of the best college and best pro players. Aliyah Boston is the best of the best. She has it made.

The deal is that the best of the best tend to never be satisfied, they want to keep getting better.

For Boston, the glaring hole in her game was her ability to stretch defenses by shooting threes. Her numbers show a real weakness…

The tendency for all basketball players is to work on their strengths not their weaknesses. If they are a good ballhandler, they like to do ballhandling drills in the off-season.

Great players don’t work on their strengths, they work on their weaknesses.

Aliyah Boston made a concerted effort in the off-season before the 2026 season to become an effective three point shooter. At this point in the 2026 season, here are her three point stats…

3’s Made- 30, 3’s Att. 64, 3’s Pct. .469

At .469 pct on threes, Boston is leading the WNBA in three point percentage.

The lessons of Aliyah Boston…

1- Don’t accept a weakness, commit to work on your weaknesses.

2- You can change who you are as a player if you are willing to challenge yourself.

3- With hard work, a weakness can be made into a strength.

4- Age doesn’t make you better, effort makes you better!!
