Coaches’ Corner: Indiana’s Iverson Cut into Screen-Screener

There is a common screen the screener action that most teams have in their playbook. Out of a box set, a guard screens to get the post into the low block, and the other post screens for the screener to get a shot at the top. Indiana runs the same thing but does it with a twist.

Diagram #1- The wings are running the Iverson action, and #4 pops out for the ball after #2 cuts off them.

Diagram #2- #2 will curl around #5, #1 will screen for #5 to pop to the top.

Diagram #3- The ball is reversed to #1. #2 sets the screen for #4 to dive to the low block.

Diagram #4- #5 screens for #2 to come out for the shot. #1 is lower on the wing so #2 is coming out more to the side than the top- to make it easier to pivot into the shot.
