Fresh soph state I had lost in the semi finals and was really down on myself but that loss really helped me gather the strength to continue to wrestle and earn my spot on the podium.

Success comes with losing. It sucks, but it’s part of the process. One that really sticks out to me is junior year at sectionals for swim. I did not have the meet that ray or I wanted and it didn’t go in our favor. Nothing we can do about it now. But my senior year, I was ready to get back in and do better. I trained harder and I had a lot more fun with the sport. I had my up and downs throughout the season with mind games, but once I got over them, I had the best sectional meet of my high school career. I broke pool records and set new high school records. It’s all about trusting the process and knowing what you can and can’t control.

Each loss is a positive; even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment. It teaches you something different almost every time. What you can do better or something you shouldn’t have done.

Best Christmas present you have ever gotten?
My best Christmas gift I have ever gotten is definitely my Barbie dream house!
What was THE best food (main dish, side dish, dessert, treats) that you had over break?
The best food I had over break was Texas Road House, because I love their rolls.
If you could have invited 3 living, famous people, who are not family to your Xmas dinner- who would you have chosen?
If I were to invite 3 people to Christmas, it would be Paige Bueckers, Adam Sandler, and Kevin Hart. They all have funny personalities, and I think it would be interesting to have them all together in one place. I don’t think we would have a hard time making my conversation.

A loss that ends up in a positive is when we learn from it. The loss was due to people not working together as a team. Many people think basketball is all about points and scoring but there is so much more. When people are focused on their scoring more than what is best for the team, it can lead to a loss. However, the loss that I remember ended up being a positive outcome, because eventually everyone learned from those mistakes. We all started to work together better as a team and not just focus on ourselves as individuals.

Actually, we just had a loss that really impacted us in a positive way. We lost to a team that was 4-8 because we did not focus playing OUR game, instead we played theirs. Our coach is determined to never have that happen again and so are we. We came out and played our next game with good intensity and won. We are still wanting to push ourselves to be better and better as the season goes on.

The best Christmas gift I have ever gotten was when my brothers and I got tickets to the Cheez-It bowl in Florida when Illinois played South Carolina 2024.
What was THE best food (main dish, side dish, dessert, treats) that you had over break?
My favorite food that I ate over break was chocolate chip cookies that my cousins made for Christmas.
If you could have invited 3 living, famous people, who are not family to your Xmas dinner- who would you have chosen?
The famous people I would’ve invited to my Christmas dinner would be LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Kevin Hart. I think it would be cool to meet 2 of the G.O.A.T’s in their own sports and Kevin Hart for the laughter.
None of us like to lose. Losing a game, match, or event can really hurt at the time. What is a “loss” you experienced that turned out to have a positive impact on you or your team?
A loss that I experienced that I felt changed me was when we lost in the regional championship in 8th grade. Throughout middle school all of the sports teams I had played on had very good records but this was our 3rd loss of the season. This made me realize how much I really had to work to achieve what I wanted to.

Best Christmas gift all-time-
Best Christmas Gift would probably be my first ever pair of Kobe 6, never will forget how bad I wanted them.
Best food over the Holidays-
The best meal I had over break was my Christmas Eve dinner with Ham, Mashed potatoes and green bean casserole all cooked by my sister!
Three guests you would invite to Holiday dinner-
I would invite Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Kevin Hart to my dinner just because I know it would be the funniest dinner to be at!
We all hate to lose. Has a loss ever turned out to be something you/your team could use as a positive going forward?
Junior year we were 3-0 in conference, leading up to the 4th conference game I felt like we got a little complacent after beating the “top team” in the conference. We ended up losing that 4th game but it did help us to realize that we can’t be complacent and got to continue to put the work in and to not get satisfied with what we have done. So I think that loss helped us a lot to realize that.
