Jessica Lieber Signs with UIS

Jessica Lieber signed to play golf at University of Illinois- Springfield.

Jessica will join another Streaks' alum, Sara Baker at UIS. Sara will be a senior on the volleyball team next year.

Jessica Lieber has been playing golf only since her freshman year at Galesburg High School.

However, the GHS senior has worked countless hours at improving her game and it paid off Thursday when she signed a national letter of intent to play golf at the University of Illinois — Springfield, an NCAA Division II school.

"I really like the school itself and I love the golf program," said Lieber, who shoots an 18-hole average of 75 and 9-hole average of 38. "They just got a new coach last year, so they are building up the program. I'm excited to play with the incoming recruits."

Lieber, who made four straight appearances at the IHSA Class AA state girls golf tournament, joins a UIS team that finished eighth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship in the 2011-12 season.

Teacher's Retirement Letter

The following was published in the Washington Post. It is not sports or basketball, but it is an interesting letter from a teacher who has decided to retire from teaching out of frustration with educational reforms.....

Increasingly teachers are speaking out against school reforms that they believe are demeaning their profession, and some are simply quitting because they have had enough.
Here is one resignation letter from a veteran teacher, Gerald J. Conti, a social studies teacher at Westhill High School in Syracuse, N.Y.:

Dear Mr. Barduhn and Board of Education Members:
It is with the deepest regret that I must retire at the close of this school year, ending my more than twenty-seven years of service at Westhill on June 30, under the provisions of the 2012-15 contract. I assume that I will be eligible for any local or state incentives that may be offered prior to my date of actual retirement and I trust that I may return to the high school at some point as a substitute teacher.

Peyton Manning's Lesson for Basketball

This is article compares the simplicity of the "Manning passing game" with the simplicity of the ball screen offense. The comparison could be made to a lot of styles in sports. The philosophy is the Bob Knight philosophy- do a few things really well vs. the Dean Smith philosophy try to do a lot to be able to surprise the opponent. This could be true also of the philosophy of Syracuse- we are only going to play 2-3 zone, but we are going to play it really well.
