This is a set action vs man to man defense, designed to get a back cut for a lob.
In diagram #1, the offense has come up on the break. #4 is posted up, and #1 wants to look at #2 on the baseline to make X2 come out to deny the ball. X2 will be on the high side.
On the reverse to the top, #4 needs to flash into the middle of the lane. #2 wants to sprint the baseline on the pass from #1 to #5. #5 looks to throw the ball to the corner of the backboard on the cut.
