Hey Coaches & AD’s- Learn From The Best


Congratulations to Lena-Winslow, Camp Point Central, and Farmington! Their football teams have won and are going to be playing this weekend in the IHSA Semi-Finals. Anyone who follows high sports in this area of the state knows that these three schools seem to always be good in football, and most of their sports teams are good. They are winners. 



To be as good as they are, they must have coaches and athletes who are committed, skills, and have a great work ethic. You don’t have as much success as these schools have without having all the ingredients of a “winning culture.”

There is one aspect of their “championship cultures,” that other schools should be imitating. All three of these schools share the same basic approach to strength training. 


1- All athletes are expected to lift year ‘round. 

2- All athletes are expected to lift during their seasons. Multi-sport athletes cannot afford to “lift light” during their sports seasons. Athletes’ lifting is adjusted at the end of their season. 

3- The schools have invested in first class weight room facilities.

4- Athletes are given the opportunity to lift in PE classes.


5- One person is assigned as the “strength coordinator” for the entire school. 

6- Coaches of individual sports give input about the strength program but the strength coordinator ultimately determines the program. 

7- Their is one program that all athletes use. Adjustments may be made to meet in-season needs but everyone is using the same program.


8- Playing multiple sports is encouraged. So athletes do not lift sports specific programs, they lift as athletes. 

Congrats to Lena-Winslow, Camp Point Central, and Farmington, and best of luck going forward! Your school’s strength program, and your athletes commitment are to be admired. And hopefully, your model will be copied!!
