Lexi Daniels- What Her Teammates Say

Lexi was part of some very successful high school teams. As a junior, the Streaks went 27-8 and made it to the Sectional finals before losing a heartbreaker to the eventual State Champs. Her senior year, the Streaks were 30-4 and ranked #3 in Illinois.

Lexi never played any Freshmen or Frosh-Soph basketball, she was on the varsity all four years. She invested hours and hours in the off-season to become one of the greatest three point shooters in school history. Her abilities earned her All-State recognition her last two years.

When I was called about Lexi, I told them that she had an incredible work ethic, she was humble, and she was team first kind of person. Lexi’s humility made her eager to be coached, diligent as a worker, and thoughtful and caring as a teammate.

I reached out to some of her Streak’s teammates, and asked them how they felt about Lexi…

Kylee Townsell says…
I felt as though Lexi was always calm and collected no matter what. If she was making every shot she took or missed several she would always stay level. She rarely let it get to her during the game.

Lexi is patient. She is kind and can make the game fun! The point is to enjoy the game and she can help make that happen. She is good at working on her weaknesses and can help others improve on there’s as well. Lexi knew she wasn’t a great one on one defensive player. She worked on this skill and became a great help side defender. She has great dedication.

Kaylah Townsell says…
I think that Lexi’s best strengths were teamwork and leadership. She was always positive and uplifting, even when situations would get tough.

Lexi will be a good coach because she has had plenty of experience playing the game, she is patient, and she always has positive reinforcement. Lexi knows when to be serious and when to have fun. She was a great player and will be a great coach.

Shayli Florine says…
I think everyone knows one of Lexi’s strengths as a player was her ability to shoot lights out from the 3 point line. She not only could she shoot from deep, she could read when the defense was keying in on her and help open up other options in the half court. Beyond her shooting though, Lexi had a lot of strengths that don’t show up in the box score. Lexi has a tireless work ethic and was always in the gym getting up extra shots, working on her game. You never questioned whether or not Lexi was going to play hard. Lexi was overall one of the best teammates you could ask for. Lexi is a competitor, a great friend, and makes everything fun. If there anything that can speak to how great of a teammates Lexi is, it’s the fact that four years after our high school careers ended, Lexi and I are still best friends today.

I think Lexi will make a good coach because she has a great basketball IQ, and can communicate that effectively. She knows the ins and outs of the game and has an excitement for the game that I think will make players want to play for her. She has a very welcoming and fun personality that will make her a great addition to the coaching staff. I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to watch her continue to grow.

Casey Williams says…
Lexi was an amazing teammate. She always remained focused and she was a very good listener. When there is information to be taken in, it doesn’t matter who is talking, she will listen. We all know Lexi’s number one strength as a player is to splash a three anywhere on the court. That is because she realized between her sophomore and junior year how important it was to put the extra work in. She became a very confident shooter because of her hard work ethic. If someone were to give her a few pointers she would be in the gym working on them the next day. Not only to make herself better, but always to make the team as a whole better.

Lexi will make an amazing coach for the Streaks because her passion is teaching, playing basketball, and being a former Silver Streak. There is unfinished buisness in that gym for Lexi and I know that first hand she will want to be able to be part of the next team that can make it further than we did in 2015. Lexi is willing to put the time and energy into those young girls and I know she will make a great role model for them. I cannot wait to hear about the upcoming successes of Silver Streaks Girl’s Basketball with the addition of Coach Lexi!
