Streaks Alumni Profile- Katelyn Davis 2017

Today’s Streaks Alumni Profile is with Katelyn Davis from the GHS Class of 2017.

Katelyn was involved in sports and many activities throughout her GHS years. She had a positive impact on everything she was involved in.

The exciting thing is that she is back in Galesburg and working in her hometown.

Sports and Activities…

I was involved in Golf, Women’s Basketball as a player for two years then after getting injured decided to be one of the best managers in galesburg history, track and field for one year, Yearbook Club, FFA, and G-Club

Favorite teachers/classes…

Favorite class was GAVC cooking (I don’t recall official name) with Mrs. Barrett — I loved stepping out into the community and learning how to prep and create amazing dishes

Best memories growing up in Galesburg…

My best memories of GHS was my involvement with sports where I maintained some of my greatest friendships and learned a lot of valuable life lessons. One of my favorite memories was being apart of all the skits for pep rallies over the years, my favorite skit being the dance battles where my class would always sweep the floor with our skills.  I loved growing up in Galesburg, especially now as an adult, because I have ever lasting friendships, community connections, and somewhere to always call home.

Education after GHS…

After GHS I attended Carl Sandburg College where I continued playing golf, then once graduating with my associates degree I went on to Illinois State University. My time at ISU was well spent and I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education with an Endorsement in Special Education. From there I traveled to San Antonio, Texas for my student teaching experience. I ended up staying in Texas for almost four years. Where I taught preschool and early childhood special education. During this time I also recieved my Yoga 200 HR Certification, in order to begin teaching yoga classes. I moved back to Galesburg to be closer to family Feb 2025 where I continued teaching preschool and ecse at Bright Futures.

I wanted to step away from the classroom for a bit and this where I found my passion for the role I currently am in. I and the Founder of The Social KD — where I do Market and Event Coordinating for local businesses. Some of my current clients are The Beanhive, The Movement Journeyman, Fisk Bier & Wine, and Hidden Hills Vineyard & Winery.

What are you doing now…

Now I create and distribute digital marketing materials, manage marketing and event coordination for the four businesses, and help consult other businesses that are wanting to get their foot in the door with social media.

Advice to today’s students/athletes…

Advice for today’s students: it’s okay if you don’t know what you want to do after high school, or if you feel called to start somewhere new—try it. Try it all. I moved away, chased different paths, and changed careers more than once before 26. Every experience taught me something. And if you decide to come back, that’s not failure, it’s growth. You’re allowed to explore, pivot, and rewrite the plan as many times as you need. Moving back to Galesburg was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I wouldn’t be here without trying different paths first. The real world feels scary until you realize that trying things, and not having it all figured out, is part of the process!
