We want to recognize our three members of the class of 2020- Arleta, Chelsea, and Kaylee. You have given so much to the Streaks basketball program, to your teammates, to your coaches, and to each other.
You have been fantastic leaders by example. You never took shortcuts. You were first on the floor for practice. You came into shoot extra. You practiced and played with passion- always.
When something needed to be said- you stepped up to say it. If our weight room session was not great, one of you would tell us we needed to do better next time. After practice, you would not hesitate to say if we had not practiced at a championship level. And the practice before the Swirl, one of you was willing to tell the team, “Don’t do anything stupid tonight.”
You cared about each other, and you cared about your team. You believed in your team, and believed in your coaches. You made our team better, and you made our program better. I will always be thankful for what you gave to Streaks basketball, our program is stronger because of you.
I look forward to following the next chapters in your life. The combination of your work ethic, your ability to be team players, and your compassion for others will make you successful in whatever you choose to do. Congrats & thanks to our special three seniors! - Coach Massey
Now I have asked the three to share some of their memories, and then their teammates want to express their thanks to Arleta, Chelsea, and Kaylee
Where did you go to grade school?
Arleta- Steele School
Chelsea- Gale School
Kaylee- Gale School
What was your favorite Halloween costume?
Arleta- A pirate (I guess I should say Arrrrleta)
Chelsea- I was a literal box & my sister was the UPS lady
Kaylee- I dressed up as a puppy one year. It was a full body suit with the puppy face on the hood. This question reminded me of my favorite Halloween costume Chelsea has ever worn. One time she was a UPS box and the picture always makes me laugh.
Arleta- Going on the field trip to the farm.
Chelsea- My favorite memories are when I got to swing on the swing set everyday at recess, have Valentine’s day parties and decorate boxes, and have Halloween parties and we got to walk around the school in our costumes.
Kaylee- I just liked being with friends.
Where did you go to JH?
Arleta- Churchill
Chelsea- Churchill
Kaylee- Churchill
What were your biggest fears entering GHS?
Arleta- That I wouldn’t be able to get my locker open and it would make me late to class.
Chelsea- My biggest fear was finding my classes and trying to remember where my locker was. Which I did lose it and went to a completely different locker on the other side of the school and tried opening it.
Kaylee- My biggest fear entering GHS was not having classes with my friends. I did have a lot of friends in my classes, and I had a really fun freshman year.
What was your worst experience learning to drive?
Arleta- My mom always yelling at me and telling me not to be cocky.
Chelsea- When I would try turning, I would almost come to a complete stop and turn or just go super fast on accident.
Kaylee- I asked my mom this question, and she loves me, but I “grew into driving.” I was not good at first, but slowly became better.
What has been your favorite classes?
Arleta- French class my sophomore and junior year.
Chelsea- My favorite classes have been PE, all of my English classes, and my CNA class.
Kaylee- French, Sociology, and PE. I loved French because of the friendship I had with my teacher. I enjoyed Sociology because that is my favorite field of study, and Mr. Schassfma was my teacher. I love the way he teaches and I love him. He inspired me to want to be like him in my future profession. Lastly, I liked PE because I would always mess around with Mr. Hart.
What is your all-time favorite school lunch?
Arleta- Chicken nugget Tuesday’s
Chelsea- My all-time favorite school lunch was either the “Thanksgiving dinner” or taco salad.
Kaylee- I brought my lunch almost every day, but I liked chicken nuggets.
What advice would you have for an incoming freshmen as a student?
Arleta- Relax and be you. And the seniors may seem scaring but really everyone is really nice if you don’t think you are better then they are.
Chelsea- My advice to an incoming freshman would be to have a list of your classes in order, which helped me, always ask questions if you need help finding a class, and to have fun in your classes and in sports!
Kaylee- Life has a weird way of working itself out, and I promise everything will be okay. Always be kind to people and make as many friends as you can.
Next year you are planning to--
Arleta- Go to sandburg and get a degree in general studies
Chelsea- Next year I am planning on going to Carl Sandburg College for 3 years.
Kaylee- Go to Carl Sandburg!!!
What do you want to study in college?
Arleta- Medical biology
Chelsea- I plan to get my bachelors in nursing.
Kaylee- I’m not sure yet. I am planning to decide by the end of this year. If I had to say right now, I’ve always envisioned myself being a teacher. I think teachers are the biggest helpers in the world, and I would want to teach social sciences.
Do you have specific career goals?
Arleta- To find a job in a hospital close to my parents at home
Chelsea- My career goal is to become an OB nurse or work where ever i’m needed in the hospital.
Kaylee- I just want to help when I can. I just want to be a helper.
Advice or quote that is important to you?
Arleta- Mom always told me no matter what I go through God puts the hardest struggles on His strongest soldiers and well that has always stuck. No matter what I go through He always has me.
Chelsea- “One moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory.” Louis Zamperini- he was an Olympic runner & was also an American WWII veteran.
Kaylee- “There are far, far better things ahead than any you leave behind.” -C.S. Lewis. I have never been accustomed to change, and I always am sad to leave things behind. Knowing that even though I like the present, I will like the future too.
Senior night- who was more emotional- you or your mom?
Arleta- My mom.. I think that’s because we still had a few weekend games left at home to play.
Chelsea- Me and my mom were both very emotional, once one of us looked at each other, we both lost it.
Kaylee- My mom was emotional when it happened. However, I tried to hold it together the whole night, but I was really emotional when I left the gym.

Chelsea- My favorite meal that my mom makes is dried beef gravy!
Kaylee- My favorite meal my Grandma makes is noodles.

Favorite- Ozark, Tiger King, or Schitt's Creek?
Arleta- Ozark
Chelsea- I have only watched Tiger King and once I tell myself I’m not gonna watch any more of it, something happens in the episode that makes me wanna keep watching. It is a strange show to say the least.
Kaylee- My mom and I watched Tiger King in one day. It is my favorite because it blew my mind.
Things you will remember about bb practice?
Arleta- Everyone showing up to practice and Camilla always cheering me on during post breakdown workouts.

Kaylee- I will always remember having fun every day.
Game nights- what are special things you will remember?
Arleta- Home game team prayer.. This season I was the one that normally prayed over the team and me being a religious person and some not but them still allowing me to do that meant a lot.
Chelsea- I will always remember lining up for the National Anthem going Arleta, Kaylee, Me, then Riley. I will always remember looking up to see how many people have come out to our games as we warm up & I’ll always remember our huddle right before game time.
Kaylee- Getting ready and listening to music in the locker room, going upstairs and doing our ritual, and running out. I loved running out at conference games because of the band.
Opponent you would most enjoy beating?
Arleta- Moline
Chelsea- I would have loved to beat Rock Island.
Kaylee- Moline, always.
Advice to next year's varsity players?
Arleta- Play every game like it’s your last and never give up with the process. It works I promise.
Chelsea- My advice to next year’s varsity players would be to always have a good attitude, help one another out when needed, and always be focused, because that season goes by so fast.
Kaylee- Work as hard as you can while you can. Never take a day for granted because it is truly over before you know it.
Arleta’s words to Chelsea & Kaylee-
Chelsea- thank you for always supporting me. You always knew just what to say when I was having a bad day or something just wasn’t right. You are such a great person and are going to do amazing things in the nursing field.
Kaylee- oh where to start... you have been there with me Through a lot and I will never forget the prank you guys played on me in the hotel room. Our friendship really started through sports but became much more then that. Thank you for everything and I’m beyond proud of your PT progress so far.
