Retirement

At the end of our banquet this year, someone came up to me and asked,"Are you going to be coaching next year?" I am never sure when someone asks if they are hoping I am retiring or if they are hoping I am continuing to coach.

Our present teaching contract encourages teachers to give a 4 year notice of their retirement from teaching. This allows the school to more effectively plan. I submitted a letter to the school board indicating my intent to retire as a social studies teacher and chairperson of the social studies dept, effective at the end of the 2014-15 school year. I did not include my coaching position in that letter.

The retirement from teaching in 2015 is something my wife and I had hoped would work out for sometime. The timing is such that both Allen and I will be able to complete high school the same year. I personally have really looked forward to next year when Allen and I can ride to school together!

I am very appreciative of the counsel Dr. Denisar has given me over the last year regarding this whole process.

So for now, people don't need to ask when I am going to retire. As far as coaching, my intent is to coach beyond 2015 for a little while.
