Coaches’ Corner- Screen Action into Ball Screen

This is a set that starts with a guard-post screen that a guard has to help on, and then immediately into a ball screen.

Diagram #1- #1 passes ahead to #2. #1 will set a screen for #5 to cut into the post. Each team needs to figure the best screening method- a hip screen or regular chest screen.

Diagram #2- #1 pops out immediately to get a pass from #2. #4 should be cutting up to screen for #1. #4 needs to arrive to screen as #1 catches the ball. A ball screen that is initiated by a guard who has not dribble is very hard to cover. (It might be that you want to run the offense the other way so the point guard can come off the ball screen with their right hand.)

Diagram #3- #5 flashes high to take a tag defender away. The play can finish with a high-low action.
