Galesburg HS has a rich tradition in baseball. The Silver Streaks are getting ready to go. Coach Jeremy Pickrel shares a preview of the 2026 Streaks Baseball.

Years as Head Coach- This begins my 9th year at GHS and my 13th overall.

Three Keys to Success This Year

We are going to have to throw strikes and limit walks.

We need to make routine plays and limit errors.

We need to be able to manufacture runs. 

(Aside from staying healthy and remaining focused as the end of the school year approaches.)

Impact of Turf Field

It has been a game changer! I spoke at the last board meeting, thanking everyone that was involved in the process because it has had a tremendous impact. We have been able to get outside more than we have in the past. When we are stuck inside, we have a space that we don't have to jockey for time, and we as a coaching staff don't have to spend hours and days prepping and maintaining our field.

Opening Night

Opening night is now Friday, and we play Sherrard at 1 p.m. and East Peoria at 7 p.m. On Saturday, we play Rockridge at 10 a.m. and then Macomb at 6 p.m. It should be great weather and a chance for fans to see the Streaks play four games at home at the beginning of the season! 

Road Trip

The following week, we head to Knoxville, TN, for the Irish Royal Classic at Knoxville Catholic HS. We will play some great out-of-state competition, and it is a great experience for our boys. We will play Knoxville Catholic HS, Providence Academy, Greeneville HS, and Knoxville Central HS. We try to play a very competitive schedule that prepares us for our conference season and puts us in position to have a run in the postseason.
