Friday Fotos- 1998 Boys State- Kent Kriegshauser

This is a picture taken by Kent Kriegshauser in 1998. The Silver Streaks weren’t just good, they were great. They finished the season 30-3 on their way to a 2nd place finish in the State Tourney.

In the photo are Mark Reed (assistant coach), Mike Miller (head coach), and Brian Kern (assistant coach). Mark was a highly successful athlete at GHS and Monmouth College. Mike Miller came to Galesburg after taking Rockford Guilford to a 2nd in State finish. Brian Kern was just coming off a successful basketball career at Illinois State University. 

All three coaches had been successful athletes and part of successful teams. They had learned what it takes for a team to be successful. 

In sports, we know that in order to win, you have to have team work. We know that you need teammates to believe and trust each other. Most of us probably don’t realize that the coaching staff must have great team work too. 

Kent’s photo captures the teamwork and trust of the 1998 coaching staff. In the photo, they are in the heat of competition. To me, Kent’s photo captures Head Coach Mike Miller either throwing an idea off an assistant or having an idea thrown off him.
