Coaches’ Corner- Centering Ball for Backdoor Options

 

Coaches’ Corner- This is a simple action, getting the ball to the middle of the floor to create basket cuts on both sides of the floor. 

Figure 1- #1 just takes the ball to one side and #5 steps out to get the ball in the middle of the floor. 

Figure 2- On the left side, #4 is setting down screen for #2. #4 slips the screen and makes a basket cut. On the right side, #3 is setting a fade screen but slips to the basket. 

Figure 3- In this diagram, it is the cutters who refuse the screen and make basket cuts. 

Note- This action can be set up by getting the ball to the middle out of one of your standard plays. And whether you have a cutter refuse the screen or the screener slip- with work the players can learn to just read and react to the defense.
