Streaks Alumni Profile- Prov (Boydstun) Sommers 2008

Today’s Streaks Alumni Profile is with Prov (Boydstun (Sommers) from the GHS class of 2008.

I got to know Prov when she was a manager for the girls basketball team. Prov brought energy and effort to her job. And she didn’t hesitate to let Coach Peachey or me know when there was something we needed to get done. Prov was all about getting things organized.

Prov is one of those people that everyone enjoys being around- she worked hard but knew how to have fun!

It is exciting to see how life is unfolding for Prov and her family.

Some of your favorite teachers/classes at GHS?

Some of my favorite teachers were Mrs. Stewart, Señorita Pennington, and of course Coach Massey and Coach Peachey. They all found ways to make learning engaging and genuinely prepared me for college and beyond. I definitely remember more life lessons from Coach Peachey than I remember anything from his biology class! I loved classes like Lifetime Sports, art, and American Studies.

Some of your best memories of Galesburg and GHS?

Some of my favorite memories include making Homecoming floats in Mrs. Wallace’s garage, decorating for dances early in the morning with Student Council, and pretty much every girls basketball game. I loved cheering at football games and going to away basketball games and tournaments (the bus rides home were always the best part)!

What did you do after graduating?

After graduating from GHS, I went to Purdue University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. After Purdue, I moved to Indianapolis and have been living in Indy ever since.

Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin- Who do you most want to see Purdue beat?

Illinois- there are just too many Illini fans in Galesburg!

What have you done in your career?

After college, I worked in hotel sales for about 10 years before shifting into events around 2020. Today, I manage events for the Carmel Clay History Museum and also work as a travel advisor planning primarily Disney, Universal and cruise vacations. Shameless plug- if you are interested in planning a trip, you can email me at prov@mickeytravels.com- my services are free!

What are you and your family up to today?

My husband and I live in Indy with our four and two-year-old kids and our Springer Spaniel. We stay pretty busy between work, the kids' activities, travel, and various house projects. We love visiting my parents (JiJi & Bubba) in Galesburg any chance we get!

Advice to GHS students/athletes?

Just enjoy it! High school goes by way faster than it feels when you're in the middle of it. Get involved in something, or several things, because those are the moments where you make friends and memories. Be yourself, soak it all in, and don’t wish the time away. In the blink of an eye, you’ll be the one sitting here years later giving advice!
