William Allen- WW2 Casuality

William Allen with Ben Allen

William Allen was born and raised in Alta, Illinois. He attended Knox College and taught English and Drama at Galesburg HS. He volunteered to go into the military with the outbreak of WW2. Sadly he was killed near Berlin within weeks of the end of WW2.

He was a prolific writer, who sent hundreds of letters home while fighting in Europe. His family kept the letters and they give a gripping account of fighting in WW2.

There are several accounts of his life and experiences in WW2 on this blog, and there is also a blog completely based on his letters and research. His blog is being used at Galesburg HS and several other area high schools in their social studies curriculum. These can all be accessed by clicking on any of the names below.

William Allen is Amy Massey’s uncle. I hope you will take to read about William Allen and his sacrifice. For those of you live in the Peoria area, when you go buy or on Allen Road, it is named for William Allen’s uncle.

His years at Knox College as editor of the Knox Student.

This is an entire blog containing William Allen’s letters and the account of his life. It is used by several social studies departments in their curriculum as they study World War II.
