Streaks Alumni Profile- Whitney Dehler Hanlon 2009

Today’s Streaks Alumni Profile features Whitney Dehler Hanlon from the GHS class of 2009.

Whitney was a great high school athlete and student. Her positive attitude, work ethic, and unselfish attitude made her someone who was a quiet leader.

Her educational path has been very impressive.

It was great to catch up with Whitney!!

Sports/Activities-

Softball: Freshman year

Volleyball: Freshman - Junior Year

Basketball: Freshman - Senior Year

Student Council

Project Graduation

Possibly more but I can’t remember!

Favorite Teachers/Classes-

Favorite class and teachers were Mrs. Qualls and Mr. Hickey for American History class.  We had such a great class full of friends and fun personalities.  Mrs. Qualls was so sincere and kind to everyone, almost serving as a motherly figure for students.  Mr. Hickey was purely a goofball.  Together, they were a great team and we always had a blast in that class.

Some of Favorite Memories from Growing up in Galesburg and GHS-

Favorite memories growing up are for sure going to all of the girls basketball games throughout the 90’s.  I was young, but we were really good family friends with the Snyders - Whitney who was on the basketball team and Erin who was the team manager so we went to all of the games.

I remember helping Erin with her manager duties, filling up water bottles and such when I was able to.  I also remember helping Mrs. Dickinson hand out the Silver Streak stickers to all the fans before games.  Traveling out of town to watch the games and getting home late was just the norm for me, especially during the post season games when we had to travel further away!

Education after GHS-

Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Illinois State University 2013

Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Bradley University 2017

What have you done for your career-

After graduating with my DPT, I completed a 13 month Orthopedic Residency Program through Bradley University and OSF.  After this I took an exam to become a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the APTA. I stayed on with OSF as a Physical Therapist after that for about a year.  I then switched to working for a Private Practice Clinic, Rock Valley Physical Therapy for about 6.5 years.  There I evaluated and treated many orthopedic and sports injuries as well as post surgical patients.  I recently took a step back from work to stay home with my kids for a few years until they are all of school age.

What are you and/or your family upto these days-

We are busy!! We live in Brimfield, IL.  We currently have an almost 5 year old boy, almost 3 year old twin boys, and a baby due in June (unknown boy or girl!).

We love spending time outside, exploring nature, going on walks and short hikes, and of course playing all the sports we can!  My husband and I love to sneak off to Colorado when we can to do some real hiking, and we hope to turn those trips into family adventures as our kids get older.

Advice to today’s students/athletes

Put the work in and do things right the first time around.  Cutting corners just doesn’t work!  That is advice my dad always gave me and I will never forget because it holds true in all situations.
