I am so happy that Telicia was willing to share her memories of GHS and her life today. Telicia and the Bunch family were our neighbors on Tamarind. I can remember one summer day when Telicia and her sister, Bettina came on roller skates and wanted to take our somewhat wild dog for a “walk.” I told them they couldn’t take her on the roller skates because the street was too busy. At the time, I didn’t know that Telicia would grow up to handle living on the busy streets of New York.
Telicia living an inspirational life and career. I was especially excited to hear about life in New York City.

Some of best memories growing up in Galesburg and attending GHS
I was lucky to be part of a large group of friends, but over time a core group of five of us became especially close, we called ourselves “Us 5.” Some of my best memories are just the everyday moments we shared, from school to hanging out and supporting each other. What makes it even more special is that we’re still in touch today.
I was also part of the first co-ed cheer squad that made it to the state cheerleading competition, which was such a proud and unforgettable experience. That experience gave me the confidence to try out for my college team, and I went on to cheer for three years at Iowa State University . During college, I also had the opportunity to teach UCA summer camps. It was my favorite summer job.
Education after GHS
I went to Iowa State University graduating with a BS in Apparel Merchandising, Design, Production
Your Career
I work in fashion as a Technical Designer, and I’m also the founder of my own women’s apparel brand, Lorrel, named after my grandmother, Lorrel Bunch, who was also born and raised in Galesburg.
My love for fashion really began with her—playing dress up in her closet and watching the way she put herself together sparked my interest at a young age. I went on to study fashion in college and built my career in Technical Design, working with brands like Gap, J.Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Diane von Furstenberg, among others.
Over time, I combined that experience with my passion for design and storytelling to launch Lorrel, a brand centered around versatile, thoughtfully designed pieces. You can follow me on Instagram @shoplorrel or visit my website www.lorrel.com
Living in NYC? As a small town boy, I have never gone to NYC and I think I am intimidated to go. What do you enjoy about living in NYC?
What I love most about New York is the diversity and accessibility. You’re constantly surrounded by people from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, which makes every day feel inspiring and expansive. There’s an energy here that pushes you, you can walk out your door and find anything you need, from world-class food to creative inspiration. It’s a place that challenges you, but also gives you the opportunity to grow in ways you didn’t expect.

Advice to today’s students/ athletes
Follow your dreams and don’t get discouraged. I truly believe everyone is given a unique talent, and it’s your job to nurture it. Life will have challenges, and things won’t always go as planned, but if you stay committed and keep moving forward, it will unfold the way it’s meant to. Stay focused, stay resilient, and trust your path.
