Galesburg’s Time Capsule- This Week in History (April 13, 2026)

 

















This is a look back at the history of Galesburg (and the world). What was going on 100 years ago, 75 years ago, 50 years ago, 25 years ago, and 10 years ago this week? 



100 Years Ago- 1926
Galesburg’s School Board gave a group of professional players permission to build a baseball diamond at LT Stone School with the understanding that baseball was not to be played on Sundays. 




















75 Years Ago- 1951
Yankee’s rookie sensation, Mickey Mantle did not pass the physical to be inducted into the military service. 




















50 Years Ago- 1976
The NBA players and owners came to a contract agreement to give the players a huge 50% raise to the minimum salary. Players had the minimum salary raised from $20k to $30k. 


















25 Years Ago- 2001
The City of Galesburg wanted feedback from citizens about whether to take the plunge into the internet for city services. 













10 Years Ago- 2016
District #205 conducted their annual “Great Shake.”
