If you asked Silver Streaks fans, they would label Galesburg’s upset of Loyola in 1999 as the best game in IHSA history.
Galesburg fans are not the only people who feel that way. Over twenty years later, I have coaches and fans from other teams still stop me and say,”That was the best high school girls game that I have ever seen.”
Loyola was two-time State Champs, ranked in the top 5 in USA Today nationally, had 3 D1 recruits, and had two players over 6’2”.
The Streaks won on a buzzer beater by Sarah Larson. Jay Redfern had the all-time best headline ready to go, “GRAND LARSON-Y.”
