Streaks Alumni Profile: Randy Peters 1981

Today’s Streaks Alumni Profile is with Randy Peters of the GHS Class of 1981.

Randy did not grab headlines, but was valuable to multiple sports at Galesburg High School. He was invested in serving girls and boys tennis, varsity basketball, and football as a manager.

What were some of your favorite classes/teachers at GHS?

Favorite teachers: Evan Massey, Fred Kuster, Mike Owens, Rosemary Eiseman, Jerry Albright, Bruce Spenser and Ken Maurizi.

Favorite classes: Psychology, Biology, Chemistry and Sociology.

What are some of you favorite memories from GHS?

I was a manager for Girls and Boys tennis, Varsity Basketball and Football. Greatest moment was going to state with both boys and girls tennis.  Unknown fact- Heidi Eastman was my instructor at Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston.

Fondest social memory was cutting and selling Christmas trees for tennis teams. Also the dances after the boys basketball games were so much fun.

What did you do after graduation?

After graduation I attended Univ of Iowa for 3 semesters , then joined my father in his RC Cola distribution and went to night classes at CSC and also worked part- time at Hinchliff- Pearson - West. I received my Funeral Service Degree in 1988 and have been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1989.  Have been with the same firm since 2004 and love helping people. I do not intend to retire until my body says no more.

I love my career and wouldn't change it for anything.

What are you up to now?

I married the love of my life, Julie on 4/11/2015 and we make our home in Navasota, Tx . We have a combined family of 3 sons, 2 grandbabies and 1 on the way; 2 black cats and 2 dogs.

I am also in local government. I served as councilman 1 term and and currently am Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commision of the City of Navasota, Texas.

I work in Houston area and commute from small town. I love small town living but big city action of large funeral firm.

What advice would you give Streaks athletes?

I would tell each athlete to wotk hard, study hard, enjoy the high school years because contrary to popular belief, they are the Golden Years!
