Streaks Alumni Profile: DeWayne Sperlin 1980

Today’s Streaks Alumni Profile is with DeWayne Sperlin from the GHS Class of 1980.

The Sperlin’s Pizza House has top notch pizza that is a Galesburg favorite, and people from surrounding towns drive to Galesburg to eat. The Sperlin’s and Pizza House has had a positive impact on the Galesburg community. They have used their business to support Galesburg High School, the Silver Streaks, and the Galesburg community.

I am so glad that DeWayne was willing to let me do a Streaks Alumni Profile on him. No one is more loyal to GHS than DeWayne. He is truly one of the “good guys.”  DeWayne, thanks for all you do for others!!

I asked Coach Reynolds to share his thoughts on DeWayne and his impact…

I have been a coach for almost 30 years and I have never met a supporter as good as DeWayne. He helped shape the culture of Silver Streak basketball during my 11 years in Galesburg. Dewayne was willing to help our program in any way possible from team meals, Pizza House fundraising nights, hospitality rooms and the mentoring of our players.

We would have not been able to turn the program around without DeWayne's help. The program was changed from the moment Steve Cheesman introduced us. DeWayne was willing to do anything to help our players. Some of the best memories that I have are at Pizza House with our team.

Even after my time was over in Galesburg, I knew I had to give my new team the Pizza House experience when we came to town. We were able to eat three meals there and get the full Pizza House experience led by DeWayne and John.

I will be forever grateful for DeWayne, John and their Pizza House staff for their generosity and belief in Silver Streak basketball
