Stephanie White- Simple Wisdom

The following are coaching thoughts from Coach Stephanie White of the Indiana Fever. They were taken from interview with Sue Bird.

“WE over me.”- This was the mantra that Indiana started their season in 2025.

“Humble and Hungry”- The attitude she wants from her players.

“Skill Set, Work Ethic, Basketball IQ”- The three areas she evaluates players in.

“On a good team, there will be moments where you (players) deserve to play but you won’t get to play.”

Her meaning is that players will feel a sense of “unfairness” if they believe they have earned playing time but are not getting playing time. White is saying if you are on a really good team, there are going to be many players who “deserve” to play but they won’t all get to play.

“A coach MUST coach their best players hard.”

“In order to coach your best players hard, the coach and the best players must have built a trust in each other.”

Coach White talked about going into the Fever job knowing she needed to sit down with Caitlin Clark, Amiyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell, and work to build trust. As a coach, your best players MUST trust that you have their best interest in mind.
