Inside the Huddle: Up 3, Inbounding the Ball, 4 Seconds to Go

Situation- They just scored but you are up 3 points. You just took a time out with 4 seconds to go. You will have ball on baseline at far end from your goal, you must inbounds, no time outs left. What do you do to inbounds the ball?

I would have four players across the free low line.  I would have five guards in.  The two outside people will swing, (interchange) with each other, then run to the ball. They move before the ball is slapped or passed in.  The two inside people will screen and roll for each other (they will know who is screening and rolling.)

Once the screen and roll has taken place, you have options, hit the outside people cause that is hard to guard, or hit the inside rollers.  ALL FIVE will be our best five free throw shooters.  Get the ball in, protect, get fouled and then shoot FT's to end the game.

One option when we just wanted to be able to inbounds the ball was to run one of our best out of bounds plays. The worry is that a play is used to running the play at our basket to score, so they would catch and go up with the ball to shoot at the wrong basket.

I probably would not have #5 normally take the ball out of bounds. We would line up four players across the free throw line extended. either in a huddle or with a call, we designate one of the players to take off long. The two closest to the ball screen away for the farthest player. They will look to either screen and roll to the basket, or they will slip before screening.
