Streaks Scrapbook- Mike Trueblood (2000)

Galesburg has had some great sports writers who have given Streaks’ fans insight into the players and the games. Mike Trueblood was long-time editor of the Register-Mail.

I want to share four articles that Mike wrote in 2000 when the girls basketball team was making a run to State.

Amazing Shot- Trueblood gives a detailed play back of one of the most memorable wins in Galesburg girls basketball history. No details are missing in his description.

Who Is The Streak In The Mask?- Sarah Pacheco broke her nose during the Super-Sectional game vs. Harlem but kept playing. To play at State, Sarah needed find and wear a mask. Trueblood talked to Sarah and “unmasked” the situation.

Streaks Count More Than Wins- After finishing 4th, Trueblood provides insight into the motivation of the players and their sense of team.

Like Father- Sarah and Megan Pacheco’s father Del, played for the Silver Streaks. Trueblood explores their unique relationship and how Del approached being the father of star players.

This is a blog post from earlier that reflected on an article by Mike Trueblood. The Register-Mail was running a survey to put together an “All-Time Streaks Team.” A couple players had sent a letter to him in which they asked not to have their names included in the voting because it went against their concept of TEAM. Mike reflects on the girls response.
