Friday Fotos- 1999- Back Again

What A Run!-
In 1999, the Streaks were in the middle of a great run (and it wasn’t done yet).

The Last Word-
Coaches always say that your “star” sets the tone, the culture for your team. If your “star” is unselfish and hard working, your team will be unselfish and hard working. In 1999, the Streaks had many stars, but Sarah Larson was “THE STAR.” This interview with Sarah captures her focus- on the team!!

Winnie The Pooh-
Sorry, I have to include anything that involves Allen. Yep, he was nuts about Winnie the Pooh, but now he is Director of Scouting for men’s basketball at University of Tulsa. So when he calls, we talk basketball.

Can’t Explain This-
Evidently everything in Galesburg was good in 1999. Streaks girls basketball continue to be good, but not other things.

Number Three-
This is definitely material for a trivia contest. The star in Galesburg’s Sectional win over Freeport was #3. Sarah Larson was a senior and had been on the varsity for 4 years, but she brought the wrong color jerseys to the game. She had to wear the blood bag jersey- #3.

Number Five-
Streaks won their 5th straight Sectional title over Rock Island. If you think it was routine- look at the joy here!

Not Looking Good-
Super-Sectional at NIU, things did not look good.

Stork and the Babies-
In the Super with the game on the line, there was Stork (Sarah Larson-senior), Whitney Snyder (Junior), Jaque Howard (Junior), Rachel Bicego (Soph), and Sarah Pacheco (Soph).

Game Winner-
In overtime, the Streaks won their 4th straight Super-Sectional. With seconds left it was Rachel Bicego finding Sarah Pacheco at the basket.

Government Shutdown-
Were people interested in the Streaks?

Win or Lose?-
You can’t tell from this picture, but the Streaks won and were headed to Redbird.

THIS SUNDAY- “STREAKS SCRAPBOOK” 1999 GIRLS 2ND IN STATE- PART I

Looking at Regular Season, Regional, Sectional, and Super-Sectional.

There is a LOT to cover because of the great coverage of Mike Trueblood, Jay Redfern, Tom Loewy, Kent Kriegshauser, and Richard Dickin. By my count, during 1999 season they wrote 96 articles and posted 98 pictures. So “Streaks Scrapbook” 1999 will be in two parts.
