Streaks- Getting After It

I had a chance to go to Oregon today to watch the Streaks play three games. They won all three games, but that is not what is impressive. What was impressive?

1- They played really hard. They pressured the ball and worked hard defensively. Offensively they ran the court.

2- Everything was a team effort. Coach Demott subbed 3-4 players every 3-4 minutes. Not once did I see a player leave the floor unhappy. Part of the reason that they were never unhappy was because they had played so hard that they were ready to get off the floor.

Galesburg’s “Shooting Coach”

3- They appeared to want to be coached. When a player came off, if one of the coaches was giving them a direction on what they should have done, the players never turned away. They maintained eye contact and accepted criticism and instruction.

Obviously they have a lot of room for growth but if they maintain these things, it will be exciting to see how much they will grow.

Ella Herchenroder won the “camp three point contest.” There were about 20 teams at Oregon, so it was an impressive win for Ella.

Perhaps neater than Ella’s win was the reaction of her teammates to the win. If you watch the video, it shows their enthusiasm not just for Ella but for all their teammates.

And I had an opportunity to talk to the man, who is the “coach” behind Ella’s success.
